Mother’s Day is around the corner and we are feeling inspired by all moms near and far! Here’s a little story about a of couple customers that absolutely touched my heart as well as some thoughts around connecting with your mom on a new level.
MOTHER AND DAUGHTER ON A CRUISE
Mom 95 and daughter 71, they weren't your average run-of-the-mill mother and daughter team. Both of them exuded this sense of Joie de Vivre and it was clear that these two we're living life to its fullest. After showing the daughter some beautiful printed Maxi Bubble Dresses , I thought to myself this is me years from now! I want to be living it up and traveling the world with my amazing mom!
THE THING ABOUT MOMS
Moms teach us how to live and love. They teach us how to be strong, compassionate and brave. Appreciating mom is something we should cultivate in our families all year round, above and beyond Mother’s Day.
As I’ve grown in my life and become a mother myself, I understand my remarkable mom more and more. I’m still learning so much from her and I’m sure as time passes more of her truth will reveal itself to me.
So, if you feel like I do about your mama, here’s a few simple things you can do to enjoy a wonderful and fulfilling relationship with your Mom while you still can.
IF THE AIR IS DUSTY - CLEAR IT
Mother Daughter relationships can be some of the most complex relationships. But lets be honest, you can’t say ‘I’m sorry’ at a funeral. Sometimes it can be hard to forgive the past and move forward but if your not on good terms with your mother when she’s gone, you’ll be left with a long list of regrets.
Instead, let love take over. Be kind, patient and understanding. How you treat your mother today is the only example your children will have on how to treat you when you're older. Soften your heart. Some Moms can be cold or unkind but are often replicating how they were treated by their mothers. Do you know your mom’s history? Take the time to discover who she really is and why. You’ll be surprised what you will find and it will create an even closer bond.
THE MOM YOU HAVE TODAY ISN’T THE MOM YOU HAD AS A CHILD
I think it’s the same for most women, as time passes our moms transform before our eyes. They start as this kind of super human. They are so good at taking care of us and managing life around us that as kids, we can be completely clueless as to what it takes to keep everything a float.
Then as we grow and go through life's phases, we start to know our mothers on a more intimate level. They become more humanized - giving us the opportunity to see more deeply into their lives and build a new kind of relationship together.
This is a wonderful part of aging. Enjoy the time when you two are growing old together - she can be your best friend. Remember, Mom is the one woman who knows you better and loves you more than anyone else in the world!
MAKE TIME & BUILD MEMORIES
There’s so much you can do to make the time you have with your mom count. Re-discover her interests and get to know why she loves the things she does. Maybe she loves flowers - you can take her to a garden. Maybe she loves adventure - you can take her on an Alaskan cruise like our amazing customers! Spending time together doing activities is a fun way to connect.
At the end of the day, moms just want to spend time with their family. In person or long distance they just want to know they are on your mind.
We are our Mother’s Daughters in more ways than we may sometimes want to admit. So spend time with her and learn from her now. Just love her! You only get one Mom and one chance to get it right.
From all of us to you, we are wishing you wonderful days with your families this Mothers Day!
